Applying touches of daring design and pops of color, the Ballard House and Detatched Accessory Dwelling Unit (DADU) is a modern interpretation of a simple residential volume in the the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The main social spaces of the first level are an open plan for a seamless integration of kitchen, dining, living, and backyard deck. Thoughtful relationships between each of the entertaining spaces are designed to emphasize the purposeful connection between indoor and outdoor for social gatherings. Central circulation is paired with full height windows to organize the house around a light-filled corridor. To reduce earthwork and utilize present structures on the lot, an existing foundation is reused for the main house and an DADU is built above the current garage. The DADU shares similar materials and form to the main house.
